Google Wallet Makes TSA PreCheck Touchless ID Even Easier
Airport security continues to evolve, and travelers now have another convenient way to move through TSA checkpoints. Google Wallet has become the first digital wallet to support TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, allowing eligible passengers to verify their identity without presenting a physical ID at participating airports. The feature is rolling out across the United States and is expected to make the airport experience faster and more convenient for frequent flyers.
How the New Feature Works
Travelers enrolled in TSA PreCheck can check in with a participating airline, save their boarding pass to Google Wallet, and, if eligible, tap the Get Started option that appears on the boarding pass. After consenting to securely share their digital ID and boarding pass with the TSA, their boarding pass is updated with a TSA PreCheck Touchless ID indicator.
The system relies on secure facial comparison technology to verify identity at participating checkpoints, reducing the need to present physical identification during screening. Google states that the digital ID remains encrypted on the user’s device and is only shared after the traveler explicitly approves the request.
Growing Availability
TSA PreCheck Touchless ID is currently available at more than 65 airports nationwide. Thanks to the Google Wallet integration, eligible travelers flying with over 100 participating airlines can now access the program more easily without enrolling separately through individual airline applications.
Travelers may also continue using airline-specific enrollment through Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines if they prefer.
